Brushing Technique: Are You Brushing Too Hard? Tips to Improve
Brushing is an essential part of oral hygiene routine, but brushing too hard can cause more harm than good. Applying excessive pressure while brushing will damage the outermost protective layer of teeth-Enamel leading to its wear. Enamel once eroded does not regenerate itself.
Hard Brushing leads to:
- Abrasion of teeth
- Sensitivity to hot and cold
- Gum recession
- Tooth decay
- Reduction in brightness of teeth
You can prevent wear of your teeth by using a soft or extrasoft variety of brush with less pressure on your tooth. Frayed bristles are a sign that you might be applying too much pressure.
Also be mindful of the technique of brushing, horizontal brushing is a big no-no. Brush for not more than two minutes twice a day.
Using a gentler approach to brushing with the right technique can help preserve your smile for years ahead.
